Escape from Alcatraz™ Triathlon Defending Champion Eric Lagerstrom Returns for 2016 Race


SAN FRANCISCO – (March 15, 2016) IMG, the global sports, events, media and fashion company, announced today the pro field for the 2016 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon taking place on Sunday, June 12. Eric Lagerstrom returns to defend his title and go head to head once again with six-time Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion and Olympian Andy Potts. More than 20 of the world’s top triathletes will round out the field including 2015 IRONMAN Coeur d'Alene Champion Heather Jackson, 2015 Beijing International Triathlon Champion Lauren Goss, Olympian Greg Bennett, 2016 Rio Summer Olympics hopeful Katie Zaferes and many more.

“I am thrilled to be competing in this year’s Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, the competition in the men’s pro field should be very exciting,” said 2015 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion Eric Lagerstrom. “Since this will be my second year competing, I now have a feel for the course which will help me anticipate race dynamics this year.”

Top triathletes from around the globe will take over the streets and waters of San Francisco for the 2016 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on Sunday, June 12. Showcasing the beauty of San Francisco, triathletes will embark on a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shoreline of Marina Green, an 18 mile hilly bike ride through the Presidio and an eight mile trail run out to Baker Beach and up the infamous Sand Ladder. Fans can experience the excitement at the Marina Green where they can see the swim start and end, the athlete transition area and finish line.
